Job Ad & Profile Description

Position : Associate Project Director - Seattle

As an Associate Project Director, you will be responsible for leading large multidisciplinary projects with external partners that have immediate impact on the company. In addition, you will provide guidance and oversight to assigned project managers.

In this role, you will develop and implement strategic initiatives to improve the company's project management practices, where you will be a major Seller-Doer for the Company - securing and effectively executing projects, while building client relationships.

Associate Project Director Key Responsibilities:

  • Manages assigned projects portfolio;
  • Develops and implements project management best practices;
  • In conjunction with VPs, develops and implements project Action Plans;
  • Provides leadership in the area of Distributed Engineering between COWI offices and within COWI;
  • Assists in the assignment of resources and key staff to projects;
  • Leads various strategic initiatives as assigned by the VP; and
  • Contributes and provides leadership to aid in the development and improvement of “Best Practices” among all COWI groups: Engineering, Quality Management, Project Management, Commercial and Risk Management and Safety practices, Engineering Specialist
  • Contributes to projects by performing tasks requiring a broad and/or deep knowledge in a field of expertise;
  • Carries out project engineering duties in accordance with the Company Quality System including, but not be limited to performing structural engineering calculations, analysis and design, design checking and quality assurance, engineering inspections, creating inspection reports; and estimating costs.

BD Account Manager

  • Provides leadership in business development and marketing activities for the Company including identifying, tracking, positioning, and pursuing project opportunities, and representing the Company in external settings including technical committees, conferences, seminars, professional bodies and business groups; and
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining relations with specified key clients.

Strategic Management

  • As part of a regional management team, participates in periodic strategy meetings and contributes to the development and achievement of COWI NA and the COWI Group’s strategic objectives.
  • Contributes to ensuring that COWI NA delivers and exceeds the budgeted financial performance.
Required profile for job ad : Associate Project Director - Seattle

In order to prepare for this role, you should have a B.Sc. or a higher degree in civil/structural engineering with experience in engineering, project management, and business development with an emphasis on design, construction, , and rehabilitation of bridges.

In addition, the following competencies are important to success in this role:

  • Demonstrated and recognized Project Management and technical leader
  • Professional Engineer status in WA. Licenses in other US states considered an asset.
  • Participation in National and International professional societies.
  • Experience and reputation with local clients such as SDOT, WSDOT, Sound Transit, and other Design-Build partners.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven ability to prepare proposals and review agreement terms.
  • Self-motivated, flexible, and able to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work with staff located remotely.
  • Ability and willingness to travel predominantly in North America.
